Design Your Piece
Why Restyle

Three quiet reasons

  • i

    The style has dated.

A long line becomes a cropped one, a heavy shoulder softens, a new collar changes everything.

  • ii

    The colour has tired.

Redyed in a refined palette, from midnight black to deep burgundy, sapphire navy and emerald.

  • iii

    It no longer fits.

Refitted to the body you have now, taken in or let out, so it feels made for you again.

The Design Studio

Design it as you imagine it.

Choose the silhouette, the collar, the sleeve, the colour and the lining, and watch your piece take shape before it is ever cut.

About Us

About KC Restyle

KC Restyle is a cross-border atelier devoted to restyling and redyeing vintage fur and leather. We bring the craft of a master workshop to clients across Canada, so a piece you no longer wear can become one you reach for again.

Who We Are

One Point of Contact, From First Consultation to Final Fitting

KC Restyle exists to bridge two worlds: the generations of craft held by our master atelier, and the clients in Canada who own beautiful pieces they have outgrown. We are your single point of contact, so you never have to navigate distance, language or logistics.

You design your piece with us, hand it in at a local drop-off point, and we take care of the rest: insured transport, restyling and redyeing by our master artisans, and its safe return to you.

Canadian Local Drop-off

Hand your piece in close to home. There is no international shipping for you to arrange.

Fully Insured

Full-value insurance from the moment you drop your piece off until it is returned to you.

Master Craftsmanship

First-class master artisans with more than twenty years devoted to restyling and redyeing fur.

Where Every Transformation Is Made

Chapter I

Be Kind to the Earth.
Choose Natural Fur.

A fur coat is made once and meant to be loved for a lifetime. Yet fashion moves on, and the pieces we inherit are left waiting in the dark. Our atelier began with a quiet conviction: the kindest thing you can do for a beautiful pelt is to wear it again.

Restyling is not replacement. It is the oldest form of luxury: returning to something precious and letting it begin a new chapter.

Chapter II

Hands That Remember

Behind every piece stand first-class master artisans, keepers of intangible cultural heritage techniques passed from one generation of furriers to the next. With more than twenty years devoted to restyling and redyeing fur, they read a pelt the way a musician reads a score: its grain, its weight, its memory.

Technology serves the hand and never replaces it. Lasers bring precision to the pattern; human judgement decides everything that matters.

Chapter III

Twelve Crafts, One Garment

Every restyle passes through twelve crafts, from the first careful unpicking to the final hand-placed stitch.

  1. 01

    Unpicking

Every seam is undone by hand, so that not one pelt is lost.

  2. 02

    Dyeing

Colour is rebuilt from the fibre outward, never painted on.

  3. 03

    Patterning

Laser-guided patterns, accurate to a fraction of a millimetre, with embroidery, beading and metal detail.

  4. 04

    Pelt Cutting

Whole pelts are cut into strips about 6 mm wide and rejoined, so the fur moves like water.

  5. 05

    Cleansing

Computer-controlled washing refreshes, deodorises and sanitises, then dries.

  6. 06

    Pinning

Pelts are nailed out on forms to relax into the intended shape.

  7. 07

    Marking

The pattern is laid over each piece and marked. Every cut follows the line.

  8. 08

    Seaming

Specialist fur machines join each piece with seams that vanish.

  9. 09

    Finishing Touches

Lambskin, silk gauze or crystal, with hardware that will not snag or fade.

  10. 10

    Pressing

Heat never rises above 85 degrees Celsius, softened by a damp cloth.

  11. 11

    Lining

Hand-stitched blind seams, with a lining chosen for weight, drape and wear.

  12. 12

    Hand Stitching

Each stitch placed by hand, measured in spacing, depth and tension.

Chapter IV

Pelts of Provenance

When a design calls for additional pelts, we source only from the most respected fur auction houses in the world: Copenhagen, SAGA and NAFA.

The cold climate of Copenhagen yields mink with soft, fine fur, a natural lustre and a supple, even leather. It is where the finest pelts begin.

Chapter V

Colour as Craft

Colour is rebuilt from the fibre outward. Each pelt is first prepared with electron-beam pretreatment, opening the fibre so it can hold colour more deeply. Our colourists then blend each shade by hand, using German and Swiss dyes chosen for an even, lasting finish, through nine careful stages.

From a palette of nearly one hundred shades, a chestnut coat may become midnight black, deep burgundy or forest green; a pale pelt may become almost any colour you imagine. Gentler dyeing temperatures also mean less energy and less strain on the fibre.

Chapter VI

Nothing Is Wasted

Zero-waste is not a slogan here. It is how we cut. Every seam is unpicked by hand so no pelt is lost, and offcuts become headbands, throw pillows and bag charms. A single coat can often become a coat, a vest and an accessory.

Our vow is one garment, one client. Your pelts are never blended with another’s, never swapped along the way, and any surplus is returned to you. Even our cleaning and dyeing are done with environmentally conscious systems.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers on how your restyle works, from first photo to final fitting.

The Process

It begins with a free online pelt assessment. Send us photos of your piece and our team will review the condition of the pelts, tell you what is possible and prepare your estimate.

First, a free online assessment and estimate. Second, you design your piece in our Design Studio. Third, you drop it off locally in Canada. We then restyle it in our master atelier and handle all international logistics until it is returned to you.

Yes, but it requires our free online pelt assessment first.

That is perfectly fine. Choose “Other / I don’t know” in the Design Studio and we will identify it during your assessment.

Three photos are ideal: the front, the back, and a close-up of the lining or cuff. Natural daylight and a plain background help our team judge the condition of your pelts.

Yes. A long coat can become a cropped jacket, a vest or a bomber. In the Design Studio you choose the silhouette, collar, hood, sleeves, hem and pockets, and our master tailors confirm what your pelts allow.

Our vow is one garment, one client. Your pelts are never blended with another client’s or swapped along the way, and any surplus is returned to you or, if you wish, made into an accessory.

Design & Colour

No. Vintage fur can only be dyed to darker shades, so we cannot lighten a dark fur. In the Design Studio, lighter shades are greyed out once you tell us your original colour.

Yes. You can choose single-sided or reversible (double-sided) wear, as well as a new lining and a fit adjustment.

The preview is an illustration of your design concept. Final structural details and precise estimates are confirmed with our bespoke advisors at your consultation.

Of course. Your design is a preliminary concept until you approve the final estimate, so you can refine any detail with your advisor.

Shipping & Insurance

Absolutely. We handle all international logistics and provide 100% full-value insurance from the moment you drop it off locally in Canada.

You hand your piece in at a local drop-off point in Canada, so there is no need to ship it abroad yourself. We confirm the nearest drop-off and the arrangements when you request your estimate.

No. Your part ends at the local drop-off. We manage everything from there.

Every piece receives a final physical audit by our master tailors before any work begins. The audit confirms the condition of the pelts and your final estimate, and nothing proceeds without your approval.

Please seal the garment in double vacuum-sealed heavy plastic bags before it is handed in, so that other pieces are protected. Our atelier will assess whether it can be restored.

Mink, sable, fox, lynx, chinchilla, raccoon, rex rabbit, sheepskin, smooth nappa leather, wool and knitted mink, among others. If you are unsure, choose “Other / I don’t know” in the Design Studio and we will identify it for you.

Pricing & Turnaround

Typically 4-6 weeks for a complete restyle and redye.

Every piece is priced individually after your free assessment. The price depends on whether you choose a single-sided or reversible finish, which services you select, and the condition of your pelts. Prices can move with the market, so your estimate is confirmed in writing.

Reshaping the shoulders, hem, sleeves and collar, adjusting the fit larger or slimmer, re-lining, environmentally conscious cleaning, redyeing and colour-fixing, and even a hat made from your pelts.

Our Bespoke Redyeing Service is $1,500 CAD. If your design needs additional pelts for structural expansion, they are $400 CAD per pelt. Your final price is confirmed in writing after your private consultation.

Nothing is due until you have approved the physical audit of your piece. Your estimate is confirmed in writing before any work begins.

Send your design to our atelier from the Design Studio. It opens a WhatsApp chat with every detail prepared, and our master tailors reply with your personalized estimate within 24 hours.

A larger fit, a longer length, a hood or fuller sleeves can need more fur than your original piece contains. We always tell you before adding anything.

Care & Maintenance

Keep it somewhere cool, dry and well aired, in a breathable garment bag rather than plastic. Fur needs to breathe, and steady temperature and humidity keep it supple.

Yes. Our cold storage rooms are temperature- and humidity-controlled, sealed and dust-free, which helps slow ageing and oxidation. The warmer months, March to October, are when storage helps most.

Yes. A professional steam treatment softens the fur, restores moisture, sanitises it and removes static and dust, so a cherished piece can look its best for years.

We stand behind our work with worry-free after-sales care, and we continue until you are satisfied.

Natural fur oxidation is irreversible, so slight colour change over the years is normal, especially in pale shades. Cold storage and professional care slow it down.

Offcuts can become a headband, throw pillow, bag charm, fur hat or a vest, so that nothing goes to waste.
